Google Merchant Center Product Disapprovals: How to Fix Them Fast
When Merchant Center disapproves a product, it stops serving in Shopping ads and free listings. The reason is always shown in the Diagnostics tab, but the fixes are not always obvious. This guide covers the most common issues.
Misrepresentation of Self or Product
This is the most serious disapproval and can affect your entire account. It usually means your website, prices, or product descriptions are inconsistent with what Google's crawlers find. Check that your website shows the same price as your feed and that product descriptions match. Also verify your contact information is visible and your return policy is clear. Without these, Google sees potential misrepresentation.
Invalid Value in Required Attribute
Your product data has an attribute with a value that does not match the expected format. Common examples: the condition attribute has a value other than "new", "refurbished", or "used"; the availability attribute uses a non-standard value; or the price includes currency symbols that Google does not expect. Check the attribute specifications in the Merchant Center help docs and correct the values.
Image Not Crawlable or Missing
Google cannot access the image URL you provided. Check that the image URL returns a 200 status code when accessed publicly and that the image is not blocked by robots.txt. Images must be at least 100x100 pixels (250x250 recommended) and cannot be a placeholder or watermarked image.
Prohibited Content
The product falls into a restricted category (certain weapons, adult content, dangerous products). If this is a misclassification, review your product type and Google Product Category attributes. If the product genuinely falls into a restricted category, check whether it qualifies for limited advertising approval in your country.
Price Mismatch
The price in your feed does not match the price on your landing page. This is common when promotions are active on the site but not reflected in the feed, or when currency formats differ. Update your feed immediately when prices change or use automated feed solutions that sync in real time.
