"Google Merchant Center login issues" covers two different problems: you personally cannot sign in to your account (credentials, access role, browser, or Workspace restriction), or your account has been flagged with the "Login required" policy violation because shoppers must log in to see your products. The fix depends entirely on which one you have.
Google Merchant Center is the dashboard merchants use to manage the product feed behind Google Shopping ads and free listings. A login problem with that dashboard is almost always one of five things: wrong credentials, a browser conflict, a missing access role, a Google Workspace restriction, or a two-step verification hold. None of these five relate to the separate "Login required" policy violation, which is a disapproval reason for individual products, not a sign-in error at all. Confusing the two wastes time chasing the wrong fix, so this guide covers them separately.
| What you see | What it actually is | Where to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| "Wrong password" or "Couldn't find your Google Account" at accounts.google.com | Personal sign-in error | Google Account settings, not Merchant Center |
| Signed in fine, but Merchant Center shows "You don't have access to this account" | Missing user role | Merchant Center > Settings > Access (ask an existing admin) |
| Redirected to a Workspace sign-in page or "This app is blocked" | Admin restriction | Google Workspace admin console |
| Products disapproved with reason "Login required" | Policy violation on your storefront, not a login bug | Your website (remove the account wall) |
| Merchant Center loads but asks for a 2-Step Verification code repeatedly | Security check, not an error | Google Account > Security > 2-Step Verification |
The most common reasons are wrong credentials for a multi-account setup, a browser cookie or cache conflict, a Google Workspace admin restriction that blocks Merchant Center for your email, a corporate firewall blocking Google's login domain, or two-step verification waiting on a code you haven't entered yet. Check these in order before contacting support.
1. Wrong account or wrong credentials. If your agency, your former employee, or a past freelancer set up the account, you may be trying to sign in with the wrong Google email. Merchant Center is tied to whichever Google Account was used to create it, not to your business email by default. Check any onboarding notes or ask whoever set up your Google Ads account which email owns Merchant Center.
2. Browser cookies and cache. Merchant Center runs on the same authentication layer as every other Google product. A stale cookie, an aggressive ad blocker, or a browser extension that strips third-party cookies can silently break the sign-in redirect. Clear cookies and cache for google.com and merchants.google.com specifically, or try signing in from an incognito window first to confirm this is the cause.
3. Missing access role. You can be signed into Google perfectly and still see "You don't have access to this account" inside Merchant Center. That means your email was never added as a user on that specific Merchant Center account. Someone with Admin access needs to go to Settings, then Access, then Users, and add your email with the right role (Admin, Standard, or Reporting Manager).
4. Google Workspace restrictions. If your business email runs on Google Workspace, an IT administrator can block access to specific Google services, including Merchant Center, at the organization level. If you see "This app is blocked" or get redirected to an internal sign-in page instead of Merchant Center, this is almost always the cause. Your Workspace admin needs to allow Merchant Center under Admin Console > Apps > Additional Google Services.
5. Network and firewall issues. Corporate and school networks sometimes block Google's authentication domains outright. If Merchant Center fails to load only on your office network but works fine on mobile data, this is the cause. Ask your network administrator to allowlist accounts.google.com and merchants.google.com.
6. Two-step verification stuck mid-flow. If you enabled 2-Step Verification and the prompt notification, code, or security key does not arrive, the sign-in will stall indefinitely rather than show a clear error. Check your authenticator app for a pending prompt, or use a backup code if you have one saved.
It is not a sign-in problem at all. It is a policy violation that Google applies when a shopper has to create an account, enter a password, or download an app before they can view your products or prices. Fix it by making your product pages and prices visible to anyone, with no account required, until checkout.
Google's crawler visits your product page the same way an anonymous shopper would. If it hits a login wall, a mandatory sign-up form, or an app-download prompt before it can see the product name, image, and price, Google disapproves that product with the reason "Login required." This is a storefront problem, not a Merchant Center account problem, and it will not lock you out of the dashboard.
Membership sites, wholesale B2B stores, and some subscription platforms trigger this constantly because they gate pricing by design. Fixing it does not mean removing your membership model, it means letting non-members see the product and its price on a public page, then requiring login only at the actual checkout step.
A login error and a policy suspension look similar from the outside but need completely different fixes. The GMCSuspension audit checks all 52 policy requirements in 60 seconds, so you know exactly which one you're dealing with.

It is a policy violation, not a sign-in problem. Google applies it when a shopper has to create an account or enter a password before viewing your products or prices. Fix it by making product pages and prices publicly visible, with login required only at checkout.
Your Google account works fine, but the specific email has not been granted a role (Admin, Standard, or Reporting Manager) on that Merchant Center account, or a Workspace administrator has restricted access for your organization. Ask the account's existing admin to check Settings then Access and add your email.
A sign-in failure on your end does not affect live listings, your feed keeps running whether or not you can log in. The Login Required policy violation is different: it disapproves the affected products immediately, which does stop them from showing.
Merchant Center uses your regular Google Account password, there is no separate password. Go to accounts.google.com, choose Forgot password, and reset it there. The new password works immediately across every Google product tied to that account.
Repeated prompts usually mean your 2-Step Verification method expires quickly, you're signing in from a new device or location, or your account was recently flagged for review. Add a passkey or authenticator app as a stable second factor to stop repeated re-checks.
Yes. Suspension blocks your products from Shopping ads and free listings, it does not lock you out of the dashboard. If you cannot log in at all, that is a separate access issue and needs its own fix, not a reinstatement appeal.
